eSIM stands for “embedded” SIM. This means the SIM is already in the phone when you get it. No more physical SIM cards. It also means you can activate Total Wireless service in as little as 15 minutes, or even less.

eSIM does the same thing as a physical SIM, but provides a convenient way to switch quickly between providers and activate service without installing a new physical SIM card.

Some eSIM phones have a physical SIM card and an eSIM. To make sure you activate your Total Wireless service quickly using your phone’s eSIM, use the second IMEI number, or “IMEI2.”

You can still switch to Total Wireless if your phone has a physical SIM card. You’ll just need to pick a plan and then order a SIM kit online before you make the switch. You can also do this by visiting a store.
